Wipe the wood surfaces down with a soft cloth and mild soapy water to remove dirt and surface debris. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry naturally. Avoid using abrasive cloths, harsh detergents, or pressure washers, as these can strip the natural oils from the wood surface.
To preserve the natural warm color of the wood, apply a quality teak oil or wood sealer once or twice per season. This is optional — left untreated, FSC-certified hardwood weathers gracefully to a silver-grey patina that many owners find equally appealing.
When storing this piece during the winter months, avoid rooms that are centrally heated — excessive heat causes wood to dry out and can lead to minor cracking or warping. A cool, well-ventilated outbuilding or garden store is the ideal environment for off-season storage.
